Proper Knife Care:

  • Use a honing rod before each use or after each washing. We will be more than happy to show you the appropriate technique.

  • Always hand-wash your knives. Dishwashers can cause:

    • Blades to knock together, leading to chips.

    • Detergents strip protective layers, causing rust and/or corrosion.

    • High heat can warp the metal and/or weaken the blade-handle bond.

    • Wooden handles may swell, split, or become brittle.

    • Plastic handles can crack and/or discolor over time.

    • The danger of being cut while unloading the dishwasher.

  • Store your knives properly:

    • Wooden knife or magnetic knife block.

    • Magnetic knife bar.

    • Universal knife covers

    • Do not store your knives loose in a drawer. Storing your knives this way causes them to lose their edge, chip, and, most importantly, possibly injure someone who reaches into the drawer to get one.

Tips for Preparing Your Knives:

  • I recommend not bringing all your knives at once. Keep a knife with you in case of delays. I will always communicate promptly if anything arises.

  • How to safely wrap your knives:

    • Lay a thick towel flat on a table. Place one knife flat on the towel and roll the towel over it once. Lay the next knife beside the roll and continue rolling. Stop when the outermost layer contains no knives. Secure the towel with a wide strip of packing tape or duct tape.

    • You may also bring knives in their holders or a knife block—just secure them with blue painter’s tape.

    • If I am picking up your knives, I will bring a knife roll for transport.
